GT COFFEE EXPORTERS

The Guji people are believed to be one of the first settlers of the Oromo’s in the present day Ethiopia. Being the oldest setters in that amid, fertile region gives them the entitlement of being one of the oldest growers of coffee.  This long tradition of coffee has developed a strong existential attachment to the everyday means of their life. Yet, despite the longest presence of this tradition, making coffee the means of their livelihood has not been an easy journey for the Guji’s. But, recently this gap has become a little tighter as many enterprises have continuously taking part in the production process. The gap in some ways paved the way for larger coffee growers and washing stations to establish themselves in the area, thereby giving Guji coffee a fighting chance to earn a name for itself among other southern Ethiopian coffee. We grow up in Guji, and growing up there, means having the chance to witness this bond. It means having a memory to value, having a history to trace as well as having a rich tradition of coffee to promote.
